October NEWSLETTER 2016

Examination time! Our girls are very busy preparing for end of the year exams. Those in metric have already started. We hope that they will all do well and pass. We wish them good luck for their exams.
At the beginning of the month we celebrated a birthday of one of our girls. We also close the month with another birthday, this time of Sr. Lydicia. We had a good time with those who celebrated their birthdays. Just before we can say goodbye to October a beautiful healthy baby girl was born and welcomed by the family. What’s a blessing! “Each day there are new blessings. Let us give thanks to God” St. Mary Euphrasia, the foundress of Our Lady of Charity of the Good Shepherd- Angers, France.

Welcome October baby!
We were blessed with so many visitors during the month. We had a privilege of being visited by our two sisters who live in Rome as Congregational counsellors of the congregation of Our Lady of Charity of the Good Shepherd: Sr Hanan and Sr. Zelna. A group of elderly ladies from the Orchards paid us a visit too. We prayed together (they actually lead the prayer) and one of them gave a talk to the girls. The speech was so motivating that the girls appreciated it so much. In spite of different kinds of aging limitations, for these ladies, the sky is the limit. They still continue to touch lives of those around them. Their talk and visit made our girls felt that they are loved and encouraged not to give up on their dreams because of their babies. Those lovely grannies brought with them some toiletries for the girls. Another group who came to visit us was the group of The Catholic Women’s League from our parish (St John the Baptist, Pretoria North).
They also encouraged the girls, wished them the best in their exams and let them know that they are journeying with them. They too brought some goodies for the girls. “The wonderful work you are doing is a tree of love and life” St. Mary Euphrasia.

The girls also had a fantastic time at Hartbeesport Dam. They went for an outing. They enjoyed the beautiful scenery of the Dam, mountains, bushes, water fall. Magnificent art of our Creator God.
We are ever grateful for all people of good will; our Board Members, Staff, Benefactors, our readers and all who contribute in any way towards the development of Fatima House. “The person who desires to do good, holds in his/her hand the power of God” St. Mary Euphrasia – the Foundress of the Sisters of our Lady of Charity of the Good Shepherd. September NEWSLETTER 2016

The month of September is gone with its exciting activities. We all welcomed spring with joy after spending most of winter with lots of clothes. Well, our ladies were looking forward for spring as they started swimming. The pool was opened exactly on the 1st of September and the girls were playing with water and then they asked for swimming costumes of which every now and then they are ever swimming. The month is also indicating that the year is about to end. So our girls are fully aware that they have to study harder.
“It is important and necessary for one to know where she comes from….” These are the words used by most of our girls on Heritage Day. We had a celebration whereby each girl had a traditional attire that says who she is. Each one of us gave the speech explaining what is more outstanding about her culture and what it is means to her today. It was an exciting moment because the girls were indeed proud of who they are and where they come from. The ceremony was well organised because one of the girls was “a master of the ceremony”. It took place in the evening because of having to change and put lots of make-ups and etc. What was more striking was, even the girls whom we all have believed to be shy, on this occasion, they were as alive and spontaneous as ever we could think. This exercise has helped the girls to uphold the culture that is liberating and let go off what is oppressing. It has also made us aware that there is no the so called ´my culture is the best” rather that we need to accommodate each other by both giving and receiving. The girls also had a wonderful at school as they were also dressed up in their traditional attires. This was also the day we made people to real speak what they believe is their language! Oh we had such a laughter for now and then we needed translation. It was fun the whole evening. Even just by the mere of doing the thank you gesture, that was a fun. At the end of the celebration, the gifts were offered to the girls.

The MC on duty! Precious gift for the day!
During the month of September, we had a special occasion, our AGM. Our board members, as usual, worked very hard for the success of this meeting. “The wonderful work you are doing is a tree of love and life” (St Mary Euphrasia.) May our Shepherd Lord bless you for the love and time you give to Fatima House, foe we do appreciate your effort and time. It is always good to see all people who are interested to what we do to extend the mission of Jesus the Good Shepherd. From the reports which were presented, it was so clear that people do care and want this ministry to continue. One could realise the great change which has been brought in the lives of the girls who have passed through Fatima House. The reports also indicated a great need and support which spells out that we need each other to collaborate for a better service for we are dealing with people that are being pushed by our society to be where they are today. Please do check our website and see how you can still contribute in this precious mission.
Our home is privileged to be blessed by one of our joyful and active sister from Madagascar. She is presently staying at Fatima House. Her name is Sr Alice. We wish her all the best during her stay at Fatima House and we hope she will enjoy working in our ministry and staying in our Country.

We would like to express our gratitude to all our donors. We appreciate everybody who contribute in any way for the growth of Good Shepherd Fatima House. “Gratitude is the memory of the heart” St. Mary Euphrasia – the foundress of the congregation of Our Lady of Charity of the Good Shepherd.
